Promoting Women's Rights in Kirkuk

Timeframe: November - December 2006

Donor: UNIFEM

An awareness campaign for Women's Rights using media means was conducted in Kirkuk in areas where internally displaced women from low economic and social backgrounds live.

Caricatures were designed by a famous drawer in Iraq and depicted several situations where women's rights are not respected in a funny and entertaining manner. Topics tackled the issue of forced marriage, freedom of opinion and political participation and right to education.

Posters and booklets featuring simple stories illustrating the caricatures were printed and distributed to targeted areas.

Radio shows also discussed the awareness campaign.
